From January 20 to 24, 2025, the World Economic Forum (WEF) is taking place in Davos under the slogan "Cooperation in the Intellectual Age."
On the first day of the forum, January 20, the opening ceremony was held, with speeches from WEF founder and CEO Klaus Schwab, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, First Vice Premier of the State Council of China Ding Xuexiang, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The forum is addressing key global and regional issues, including geopolitical upheavals, driving economic growth to improve living standards, and a fair transition to sustainable energy.
The forum is also discussing matters related to artificial intelligence and the economic situation in Europe.
The 2025 WEF has gathered about 3,000 participants, including business leaders, politicians, scientists, and civil society representatives from more than 130 countries. The forum is expected to feature speeches from 60 heads of state and government. A total of 220 sessions are planned, covering topics such as trade policy, artificial intelligence and digitalization, transition to clean energy, climate change mitigation, monetary policy of central banks, interest rates, and inflation.
The UN Global Compact actively participated in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. During the week, the UN Global Compact held several key sessions focused on sustainable development and responsible business practices.
In addition to these sessions, UN Secretary-General António Guterres delivered a special address in which he emphasized the importance of global cooperation in addressing urgent issues such as uncontrolled artificial intelligence and climate change.
The active participation of the UN Global Compact in Davos 2025 underscores its commitment to promoting responsible business methods and accelerating progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
