21 March 1984 entered in force the first international treaty to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations. The adoption of the UNFCCC was a progressive step.
The Convention adopted the important message of one of the most successful international treaties in the field of ecology – the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, adopted in 1987 – and obliged the Parties to act in the interests of human safety even in conditions of uncertainty of scientific data.
Since its entry into force on March 21, 1994, the UNFCCC has become the basis for international climate negotiations, and agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol (1997) and the Paris Agreement (2015) have been adopted in its development.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE UNFCCC has proved that WE CAN SUCCEED ONLY IF WE COMBINE OUR EFFORTS, EXPERIENCE, SCIENCE AND EDUCATION!
