On 19 February the third Conference on sustainable development of Russian cities was held at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.
The organizers - HSE and the Agency "SGM" with the support of the Global Compact Local Network Russia invited participants to discuss the possibilities of using the sustainable development goals, the role of national projects in the strategies and development programs of cities and regions of the Russian Federation, as well as various tools for assessing the development of Russian cities.Among the welcoming participants of the conference were Deputy First Vice-Rector of the National Research University Higher School of Economics T.A. Meshkova, Program Manager, UN-Habitat in Russia, T.V. Khabarova, as well as deputy chairmen of the governing board of the Association “National Network of the Global Compact” Association - Chairman of the Board of Directors of S & M Agency A.P. Bychkov and Managing Director for Corporate Responsibility, Sustainable Development and Social Entrepreneurship of the RSPP Ye.N. Feoktistov.
A.P. Bychkov noted that mechanisms for applying the Sustainable Development Goals in Russia at the national level are currently in the development stage, and this conference, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders, can help to set priorities for the application of the SDGs in strategic planning of cities and regions, and promote greater dialogue on sustainable development issues. He also noted the relevance of this conference in connection with the approval of the Spatial Development Strategy of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2025.
Representatives of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, the S & M Agency, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Rosstat, the Moscow City Duma, the Center for Strategic Research, Severstal, FBK Grant Thornton, experts from leading research and development organizations took part in the plenary session and discussions of the conference. regional development, urban planning, representatives of educational organizations, businesses and NGOs.
General Director of the Agency "SGM" E.I. Dolgikh presented the results of the sixth Rating of Sustainable Development of Russian Cities. The rating was built for 185 cities of the Russian Federation with a population of more than 100 thousand people based on 42 indicators, assessing the three main areas of sustainable development: economic, environmental and social (including demographic).
