As countries gather for the Bonn Climate Change Conference, the UN-REDD Programme will release a report emphasizing the urgent need to enhance national climate action plans also known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to effectively protect, restore and manage the world’s forests, which is essential for achieving the Paris Agreement goals.
Titled "Raising ambition, accelerating action: Towards enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions for forests,” the report reveals that current NDC commitments are lacking, with fewer than half of the top 20 tropical deforestation countries setting measurable forest targets. Experts will discuss the necessary actions to align NDC ambition with global commitments to halt and reverse deforestation by 2030.
