The Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum "Russia 2018-2024: Realizing the Potential" was held in Siberia from April 12 to April 14, already 15 times.
More than 5.5 thousand people from 30 countries of the world and about 60 regions of Russia visited the KEF sites. In the days of the CEF, 70 agreements, memorandums and agreements between the government, business, and public organizations were signed.“Russia takes an active part in shaping new approaches to managing resources and risks in the context of sustainable development, while we are all participants in creating a new national strategy combining goals for achieving social justice, economic efficiency and environmental safety,” the joint chairman commented the GCLN Russia, L.E.Ovchinnikova. - It is important to actively promote sustainable development in the regional agenda, to involve regional business in the dialogue on corporate responsibility and promoting the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, other international agreements and programs in the field of sustainable development. The largest and most successful such programs are open for cooperation, and we are striving to draw attention to the opportunities for participation, which give a new impetus to the growth of both business and the regions. First of all, the UN Global Compact is a global platform for cooperation of the private sector, government and civil society, which today brings together more than 13,000 participants from more than 160 countries of the world. We, GCLN Russia, are interested in promoting the interests of Russian regions and regional business on the initiative sites. ”
What are the main directions and potential for cooperation at the Global Compact? Are the advantages of introducing a global theme into the regional agenda obvious? What can be done by joining a community of interest to promote sustainable development of business and regions? These and other questions were discussed by the participants of the session during the discussion.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in the Russian Federation Mohamad Vahid Supriyadi presented his view on the importance of international cooperation based on the values of sustainable development, in particular, in the context of modern Russian-Indonesian relations, called the “second golden era”.
Why the UN global agenda is a concrete guide to action, how practical it has a dimension, direct objectives and indicators, how it is directed to ensure that the study of world problems takes place on the ground, and to apply innovative findings, after testing, as widely as possible under the motto “Thoughts globally - act locally, ”said V.V. Kuznetsov, director of the UN Information Center in Moscow.
First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investment Policy of the Krasnoyarsk Territory MV Bershadsky added a review of the topic with an understanding of how Russia's regions are involved in shaping a national strategy for sustainable development, what regional needs and demands in this regard have already been formulated for the near future.
Specific examples of synchronization of the global agenda with practical activities were presented in different directions. In particular, in the field of international cooperation of the regions (A.N. Borisov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Association of UN Assistance, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Associations of the United Nations, Head of the UNESCO Chair at MGIMO of the Russian Foreign Ministry); in the context of how the UN Sustainable Development Goals set the vector for transformation of the responsible business strategy (I.S. Zhukova, Director of Sustainable Development, Philip Morris Sales and Marketing LLC); taking into account the peculiarities of the main formats of cooperation between the regional authorities and responsible business in the interests of the sustainable development of the regions (A.Grachev, director of the department of federal and regional programs of PJSC “MMC“ Norilsk Nickel ”), etc.
Summing up the discussion in relation to the growth potential of the regions, as an example, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, from the point of view of the prospects for partnership with the UN Global Compact in the field of sustainable development, Chairman of the Committee on Industrial Policy, Transport and Communications of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, VP Demidov said: “The UN-organized discussion session is only the beginning of work towards the development of a partnership of business and government at the global level. For the Krasnoyarsk region, interaction with the UN is very important. Of course, our region is known in other countries, including thanks to large financial and industrial groups. The Universiade, which will be held next year in Krasnoyarsk, is a clear confirmation of the effective interaction between business and government. However, medium and small enterprises very often are not able to present themselves. Therefore, one of the urgent tasks of the regional authorities, deputies is the development of opportunities for international business cooperation, so that the Krasnoyarsk Territory can become a leader in the implementation of the principles of the UN Global Compact. ”
Following the session, its co-organizers discussed with representatives of the Government and the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory the development of a joint action plan, which will be determined in accordance with the regional program of the Russian national network of the UN Global Compact to promote sustainable development values.
