The  United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the main United Nations platform on sustainable development and it has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level.

The Forum meets annually under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council for eight days, including a three-day ministerial segment and every four years at the level of Heads of State and Government under the auspices of the General Assembly for two days.

The theme for the 2022 HLPF is “ Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ”...>>

The program of the forum is devoted to discussing ways to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic on the SDGs and opportunities to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda.

The HLPF will also review in-depth Sustainable Development Goals 4 on quality education, 5 on gender equality, 14 on life below water, 15 on life on land, and 17 on partnerships for the Goals. It will take into account the different impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across all Sustainable Development Goals and the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Goals.

The High-Level meeting will provide a space for ECOSOC to discuss, at the ministerial level, how to best develop forward-looking policy approaches to building back better and put the world back on track to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while advancing a more inclusive and networked multilateralism. It will aim to discuss how to balance short-term crisis relief with long-term analysis, planning and thinking.

These discussions will offer opportunities for interventions from Ministers and other representatives of Member States, UN system organizations, intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society.

Presentations of the Secretary General’s reports on the theme of the HLPF and ECOSOC and on scenarios and long-term impact of current trends on the SDGs as well as a presentation of the Report of the United Nations Committee on Development Policy will open the meeting on 18 July 2022.

44 countries will carry out voluntary national reviews (VNRs) of their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the 2022 HLPF. For more details, please click here.
