On October 9-10, a two-day expert seminar "Business and Indigenous Peoples of Russia: Current State and Prospects of Relations" took place.

The seminar was organized by the Interregional Public Organization "Union of Indigenous Peoples" in partnership with the National Network of the UN Global Compact in Russia and the All-Russian Educational Program "Indigenous Peoples of Russia: School of Public Diplomacy."

Participants included representatives of indigenous organizations in Russia and international experts such as:

  • Hany Moghani, Deputy Chair of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues,
  • Odjot Oyulu, Member of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples,
  • Sergey Timoshkov, Advisor to the Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs (FADN) of Russia,
  • as well as representatives of Russian businesses.

Key Discussion Topics on the First Day:

  • State regulation of business and indigenous peoples' relations,
  • Non-financial reporting and due diligence in business relations with indigenous peoples,
  • Support for sustainable development and fair benefit distribution among indigenous communities,
  • Successful corporate practices of Russian companies engaging with indigenous peoples in their operational regions.
