Impact of Business. Local Solutions to Global Problems

The Youth Contest ‘Impact of Business. Local Solutions to Global Problems’, the Grand-prix winners of which will be awarded with the educational certificates to SUMAS Sustainability Management School (Gland, Switzerland), is a new project of the Russian Global Compact Local Network. The contest starts in March 2018 and will last duting the whole year to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The key goal of the Contest is to attract attention of students, young scientists, teachers, specialists and other relevant categories of young Russian citizens to discuss the mission, issues and ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals up to 2030 (hereinafter referred to as SDGs), with an emphasis on the role of business in developing effective ways to promote and implement them.

‘We would like to provoke discussion among youth on problems and scenarios of sustainable development considering the potential of Russian business in achieving Sustainable Development Goals’, comments Marina Vashukova, Executive Director of the Association ‘National Network of the Global Compact’. ‘To facilitate introduction of youth audience to current practice of responsible business, with progressive approaches to form and enforce business-strategies considering sustainable development values at the example of activities of UN Global Compact participants from Russia and partners of the UN GC Russian Local  Network’.

The Contest is run in the following three nominations:

MEDIA IMPACT – Media nomination (I, II, III and Grand-prix in one age category). 

Contest project is a short-meter documentary or fiction film (up to 20 minutes) or a video, devoted to one or several Sustainable Development Goals in the context of topic, goals and objectives of the Contest.

IMPACT PROJECT – Theory (I, II, III and Grand-prix in two age categories).

Contest project includes description and results of undertaken research, analysis, modeling, concept development etc., aimed at identifying prospects and opportunities of achieving one or several SDGs under activities of Russian business (in general or a certain industry), a hypothetical company in a chosen industry or any particular Russian company of the choice of a Participant.

IMPACT START UP – Practice (I, II, III Grand-prix in two age categories).

Contest project is a presentation of a new or renewed, based on sustainable development values considering SDGs, business model, activities of a hypothetical company in a chosen industry or any particular Russian company of the choice of a Participant.

On the nomination MEDIA IMPACT the Contest is run in one age category – 20 to 30 years, on nominations IMPACT PROJECT – Theory and IMPACT START UP – Practice the Contest is run in two age categories: 20 to 25 years age category and 26 to 30 years age category.

The Contest prize fund is determined as a fund of opportunities and assumes provision of winners in each nomination with educational certificates, internships, vocational learning etc. in the area of corporate responsibility and sustainable development, including in partner companies and organizations, certificates for target grants, as well as commemorative diplomas and recognition gifts.

On the nomination MEDIA IMPACT Grand-prix is a certificate to produce a social video at an order of  the Russian UN Global Compact Local  Network at the amount of 300 000 RUR. Grand-prix of nominations IMPACT PROJECT – Theory and IMPACT START UP – Practice are educational certificates to SUMAS Sustainability Management School (Gland, Switzerland).

Events to support the Contest will  take place during the year in different regions of Russia, and the final in-person round will gather finalists and Grand-prix winners in Moscow  in the beginning of 2019.

The initiating party and the organizer of the Contest in the Association ‘National Network of the Global Compact’ (UN Global Compact Local Network in the Russian Federation). Co-organizer of the Contest, serving as an operator is LLC ‘Young Group’. Contest partner, providing the main prize fund is SUMAS Sustainability Management School (Gland, Switzerland).

The Contest is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Embassy of Switzerland in Russia, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, United Nations Association of Russia, Executive Committee of the World Federation of United Nations Associations, UN Information Center in Moscow, UN-Environment Office in Russia and other pool of information partners; leading Russian companies – participants and partners of the UN GC Local Network – also support the Contest.
