We are pleased to announce that the UN Global Compact Network Russia, having successfully completed the first round of
the SDG Ambition Accelerator, is joining another new international UNGC program, which is also aimed at helping the initiative’s participants gain relevant competencies and skills related to sustainable development.
In this case, it's
the Climate Ambition Accelerator, a six-month program that will help you understand how and why to set science-based corporate targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The expert support of
the Climate Ambition Accelerator is based on the concept and methodology of
the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and was developed by the UNGC together with SBTi and
Business Ambition for 1.5°C.
About SBTi
Through the 2015 Paris Agreement, world governments committed to preventing dangerous climate change by limiting global temperature rise to well-below 2°C. According to the scientific data of modern climatology, global warming must not exceed 1.5°C. To help the global private sector set these science-based climate goals, the Science Based Target initiative was created in 2019 by Driving Ambitious Corporate Climate Action in partnership with CDP, the UN Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the We Mean Business Coalition. The SBTi initiative now brings together more than 1,500 companies and helps to mobilize the skills, experience and ingenuity of businesses to ensure that their actions are in line with modern climate science the Paris Climate Agreement, increasing competitive advantage in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The issue of climate change is among the most pressing aspects of the global sustainable development agenda and the highest priority issues for ESG investors.
By joining the Climate Ambition Accelerator, you will be able to:
- learn more about how to set science-based emission reduction targets to achieve climate neutrality by 2050;
- gain a clearer understanding of SBTi and the concept of carbon neutrality, including information on relevant methodologies, requirements, processes, benefits and applications;
- better understand how to motivate investors, management, various stakeholders by offering them your emission reduction plan, which will certainly make your company stand out in the market;
- get access to experts and new networking opportunities;
- study the accelerator’s materials, including on request, at a convenient pace and participate in discussions on the exchange of experience and opinions in group sessions.
The program is implemented only in those countries where mature UN Global Compact Local Networks can assume responsibility for its implementation and organization of communications with participants.
